2010 SPRING RUN REPORT

Sixteen members on 14 machines turned out for the 2010 Spring Run, starting at the rugby club, Kenilworth on Easter Sunday. The pictures show the wide variety; from Bantams to superbikes with model years from 1951 to 1981.

Before we all left, orders were taken for soup and sandwiches and phoned through to the pub so we could look forward to a bit of nourishment at the finish.

The route took riders north east from Kenilworth, past the Coventry Air Museum, past the ancient tower at Church Lawford and should have used the ford at Churchover but the previous week’s downpour had rendered it impassable to bikes.

A short reroute along the A5 meant the faster machines could open up a bit and there were even some reports of unofficial Bantam racing!

Rejoining the minor roads took riders south east through Shawell and Catthorpe, past Yelvertoft marina which was thronged with brightly painted narrow boats. The most easterly point was reached at West Haddon, deep into Northants Section territory, before turning homewards through the pretty village of Watford (famous for its M1 service area) and back across Grandborough Fields to finish at The Green Man in Long Itchington.

Despite the bright, dry weather, it was a chilly ride and the hot soup provided at the finish was most welcome. We had our own room at the pub and a lively atmosphere was soon created as members swapped tales – it was clear that everybody was pleased that the riding season had re-started after this year’s long, snowy winter.

Our thanks go to Martyn Roberts for the route, son Phil for the photos and Mark and Sharon our hosts at the Green Man.Spring run Route
