The Chairman’s Social 28 July 2010.
The Chairman’s Social is an event organised my myself, Harry Wiles, Chairman of the Warwickshire Section and is just what it says, a social evening where members and non-members are welcome to come along and enjoy a chin wag while looking at a selection of bikes. It is held at the Blue Lias public house which is set next to the canal between Stockton and Long Itchington. Bikes are requested to arrive any time after 7.00pm and we lay a buffet on between 7.30 and 8.00pm.
Following a reasonable spell of weather the evening sky was looking very threatening with big black clouds accompanied by a cool wind, Fran and I always turn up early to make sure everything is ready, when we arrived we were greeted by Brian, the landlord, who asked how many bikes I was expecting, bikers being fickle people, I looked at the sky and said “we would probably only get around ten tonight”.
Brian, as usual had cordoned off the car park for the bikes, leaving the cars to park on the grass of the overspill car park. To my surprise we ended up with forty six machines, many with passengers, around six of those were people who had come along to look, I always do a flier advertising the event that Brian puts up in the pub about a month before and I think this time we will get at least two new members from the evening, there were also a few members that turned up in cars. We have the private use of a room in the pub which can be useful if it rains, as it happens, despite all the dark clouds, the evening stayed dry.
Our thanks go to Brian, the landlord, his wife and staff for the excellent buffet and of course their hospitality. I would also like to thank all the people, especially non-members, who turned out on what was not the best of evenings weather wise.
